Churro French Toast

Hola Amigos.! Lots of wonderful things going on in my vida(life) right now so I had to take a little break.

And although I've been gone and you haven't seen any new posts or photos.

I dream of sugar and baking up sweet ooey gooey love!

I assure my ovens have remained hot and I have so many new super delicioso recipes to share!

I know for you guys as well....things can get pretty busy en la vida (in life), crazy mañanas with long listas of things to do!

But every since I was a young Chica, I was always told that breakfast was the most important meal of the day.

I also believe one can never be too busy for something sweet,

so I figured why not jumpstart your day with a wonderful mix of  los dos ( both)!

So may I present to you a magically delicious addition to your busy mañana (morning )guaranteed to make you.......

okay maybe you can't

but the taste is so buttery and delicious your mouth while have no choice but to slow down and smile!

Vamos a la cocina

Ingredients

For the French Toast
1/4 tsp of cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup milk
4 large eggs
10 to 12 slices white bread ( I love texas toast it's thicker and holds up great once dipped)

For the Churro
1/2 stick of butter (melted)
3/4 cup of sugar
1 tsp of cinnamon
chocolate syrup or maple syrup (optional for those without a super sweet tooth)

Directions
  1. Break all the eggs into a wide, shallow bowl or pie plate; beat lightly with a fork. Stir in milk, vanilla and cinnamon .
  2. Over medium-low heat, heat griddle or skillet coated with a thin layer of butter, margarine or cooking spray.
  3. Place the bread slices, one at a time, into the bowl or plate, letting slices soak up egg mixture for a few seconds, if needed lightly shake extra cinnamon onto bread slice then carefully turn to coat the other side. Soak/coat only as many slices as you will be cooking at one time.
  4. Transfer bread slices to griddle or skillet, heating slowly until bottom is golden brown. Turn and brown the other side.  Place cooked French toast on a separate plate until it's time to dip in the Churro mixture.
  5. Once all your French Toast is done combine your 3/4 cup of sugar and your teaspoon of cinnamon in a shallow plate or dish. Melt 1/2 stick of butter about 45 secs or until completely melted pour it into a shallow bowl or pie plate , One at a time dip your cooked bread slices in the butter mixture and then place butter coated bread into your cinnamon sugar Churro mixture making sure to coat each side equally with cinnamon-sugary goodness!
  6. Now that the hard part is over here comes the  easy! Stack your plate with as many slices of Churro French Toast that you think  your belly can handle. Now if your a complete sugar addict( like some Chica that I know cough, cough!) this is the moment that you can either swirl on some maple syrup or heat up a small cup of your favorite chocolate syrup. I personally love the taste of Churros dipped in chocolate....so chocolate glazed Churro French Toast es tan Perfecto para mi! ( so Perfect for me)

Churros & Chocolate Donut Holes

If there is one thing I know about myself is that I heart sweets....... in all forms!

The dulce tenderness of a shiny round glazed doughnuts,

soft & fluffy chocolate chip cookies spiked with sweet chunks of chocolate chips,

a huge hunk of deep dark chocolate cake with smooth & creamy chocolate icing so thick it's practically cemented to the cake!

As much as I try to control my "sweet boca (mouth), yes I said mouth, instead of  "sweet tooth" because my addiction to yummy surpasses just my little old tooth!)

My need for sweet is a desire I can't tame, and right now the thoughts of cinnamon & sugar have been sprinkling mis dias!

And since mi amor is to share all my sugar-coated dreams with you, I present you with another way to love a Churro!

P.S...remember that Churro Funnel Cake recipe that I just posted, remember when I promised you another recipe for that extra Churro Dough?....Well here it is!

Ingredients

Churro Dough

1 cinnamon stick
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, cut into cubes
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup flour
4 eggs
vegetable oil, for frying

Churro Topping & Chocolate Stuffing

2 cups granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Vamos a la cocina! ( remember you can use this recipe or a boxed mix like this one.

 Directions

1.For the churro dough: Heat 2 inches oil to 350 degrees F in a wide 3 1/2 to 4-quart heavy pot over high heat. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine 1 cup water and the cinnamon stick and bring to a boil. Discard the cinnamon stick. Add the butter, sugar and salt and stir until the sugar dissolves and the butter melts.

2.Turn off the heat. Using a wooden spoon, quickly stir in the flour until it is well combined and a shiny dough forms. Return the pan to medium-heat and cook the dough, stirring, until it starts to pull away from the sides of pan, about 2 minutes.

3.Transfer the dough to a medium bowl and let cool, about 5 minutes. Beat in the eggs, 1 at a time, stirring vigorously after each addition, until the egg is completely incorporated (the dough will be sticky.)

4. Pull of 1-inch pieces of dough and stuff them with the chocolate chips. I used about 6-7 chips and was able to cover them completely in dough. It's important that the chocolate chips be completely covered or they will ooze out as soon as they touch the grease. Fry the churro donuts, 6 at a time, turning occasionally, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

For the cinnamon sugar topping: Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
Roll the churro donuts in cinnamon-sugar while they are still hot. It's best to eat them immediately while the chocolate stuffing is still nice and warm.

Grab a great big glass of cold leche and Disfrutalo! ( Enjoy It)

Churro Apple Pie Waffles

I envy anyone who hasn't ever had the chance to taste all the crispy, crunchy, spicy sugary goodness that is a Churro!

For me I consider them one of those super hero desserts that are in the league of their very own, they join the ranks of other long time dessert rock stars.

The classic chocolate chip cookies, chewy fudge brownies, warm apple pies and rich vanilla pound cakes each one with the over bearing potential to plumpt your from any diet plan with one simple taste of a crumb.  There's almost nothing that could make them any better, oh how enticing they are in their very own straightforward decadence!

The ideas of these desserts reaching anything more gratifying are almost non-exsistent!.........Until you welcome them to a world of pecans, walnuts & salty peanuts, white chocolate chips, dulce de leche. To a land where mounds and mounds of sweet whip cream make a pillowy bed for ripe red strawberries.  OHhhh, the possibilities are limitless.

So that brings me back to my amor for everything Churro, in the couple of weeks since I posted my original churro waffle recipe I've seen them loved and adored by many!

They've been blogged about and blogged about, pinned and repined, all of this attention has not only thrust me into the cielo ( heavens) but it has also let me see just how many of you adora ( adore) Chrurros as much as I do!

Which in turn caused me once again to think of Churros in all their super hero glory. and that lead me to ponder whether or not just like their rock star counterparts Churro Waffles could be any more irresistible?

And the answer was an undoutable Si!!

Roll them in cinnamon- sugar love, dip them in the beloved melted butter, but this time stuff them with plump, tangy apples.   Wow, The result was perfect marriage!

An American classic with a Mexican twist.......and a new breakfast tradition is born from such sweetness!

                                                                                 Ingredients
1 teaspoon salt

4 teaspoons baking powder

1 1/2 cups warm milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract
 3 shakes of cinnamon

For the churro topping-

1 cup of white sugar

1/2 cup cinnamon ( 1/4 cup if you don't love cinnamon like I do)

1/2 cup of melted butter

Apple Filling-

1 can of Lucky Leaf Apples or any can you prefer

If your feeling really ambitious you can make your own apple filling.  I found a recipe here.

                                                                   Directions

1.In a large bowl, mix together flour, salt, baking powder and sugar; set aside.  Also at this time you can combine your churro topping and set it aside. Preheat waffle iron

2.In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Stir in the milk, butter and vanilla. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture;  Next fold in three shakes of cinnamon beat until blended

3. At this time you can also melt your 1/2 cup of butter used to pour over waffles. Next generously spray your waffle iron with no stick cooking spray. Than ladle a little batter into a preheated waffle iron, gently place on 4-5 apple slices ( depending on size of your waffle iron, smaller size use 2-3 apples.

4. Next add more batter on top of apples, be careful not to overflow waffle maker. Cook the waffles until golden and crisp. ( Caution, mixing the apples directly into the batter yielded undesirable results for me)

5.Once fully cooked immediately pour melted butter on each side of the waffle and than dip each buttered side into your cinnamon/sugar churro mixture.

At this point if your mouth is not watering from the smell, check your pulse!

Once again if your a sugar guru, you can add maple syrup. Or if your just interested into making this breakfast into a dessert add a creamy scoop of vanilla ice cream.......then proceed to devouring
( I mean sophisticatedly eating your waffles!)

Churro Waffles

Have you ever eaten a churro before?  Well if you haven't....you have no idea what your missing out on! A churro is a golden rod of pure deliciousness twisted and rolled into lots and lots of sweet cinnamon and sugar right after it's taken a crispy bath in steaming hot oil.

With one bite you are plunged into a world where both spicy and sweet live harmoniously under the Mexican sun. That seems highly appropriate doesn't it?! Seeing as Mexico is one of the many places in Latin America and Spain where churros are made fresh daily by brilliant street vendors.

Coincidentally Mexico, or at least getting another chance to dip my toes in the warm aqua water along the beaches of Playa del Carmen is on my 2013 resolution/to do list.

Additionally, since I woke up the other morning with dreams of sugared churros in my head, and since I was no where near the Mexican border at the time I figured I'd improvise a little.   So I present to you " Churro Waffles"

What I came up with is a fluffier equally tempting version of the popular Mexican treat infused with breakfast table capabilities.

                                                                        Ingredients

1 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder

1 1/2 cups warm milk

1/3 cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 shakes  of cinnamon

For the churro topping-
1 cup of white sugar
1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of cinnamon (depending upon how much you love cinnamon!)
1/2 cup of melted butter

                                                               Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together flour, salt, baking powder and sugar; set aside.

Than ladle the batter into a preheated waffle iron. Cook the waffles until golden and crisp. Once fully cooked immediately pour melted butter on each side of the waffle and than dip each buttered side into your cinnamon/sugar churro mixture.

4. Devour immediately!...... I mean serve immediately, Enjoy!

Oh and I drizzled my waffles with a little extra syrup at the end. Although this waffle is obviously sweet enough, those with a definite sweet tooth can give it a whirl! In the end though I thought they were perfecto without the dulce ( sweet) extras.
